Preview: Stryker Panthers vs. Waldron Spartans
Stryker is on a three-game streak of home losses, Waldron a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Stryker Panthers will take on the Waldron Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Saturday, Stryker faced Danbury in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Stryker was the victim of a rough 40-14 defeat at the hands of Danbury. Stryker was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-0.
Meanwhile, there was early excitement for Waldron after they claimed the first score on Thursday, but it was North Adams-Jerome who ended up claiming the real prize. Waldron fell to North Adams-Jerome 32-26.
Despite the loss, Waldron saw an underclassman step up: Collin Williams rushed for 176 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.8 yards per carry. Williams was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 52 yards.
Stryker's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. Waldron has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Stryker against Waldron in their previous matchup back in September of 2022 as the team secured a 50-20 victory. Does Stryker have another victory up their sleeve, or will Waldron turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
