Basketball Recap: Alyssa Freeman's Big Game Can't Quite Lead St. Francis over Central

St. Francis suffered their closest loss since February 6th on Friday. They fell just short of the Central Rockets by a score of 61-59. The defeat continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Rockets: they've now lost four in a row.

St. Francis' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alyssa Freeman, who went 6 for 7 on her way to 15 points and seven rebounds. Freeman is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Mia Quaranta was another key player, going 7 of 10 on her way to 18 points and five rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Audrey Lafleur, who posted 19 points and five assists. Lafleur has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Julia Scheuer, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards.

St. Francis' defeat dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Central, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-9.

St. Francis will be taking part in a tournament against Thornton at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Central and St. Laurence will round out the year against one another at at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Central is facing St. Laurence at the right time seeing as St. Laurence is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
