Football Recap: St. Ignatius College Preparatory Skates Past Alisal with Ease

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but St. Ignatius College Preparatory had no problem doing just that on Friday. They claimed a resounding 49-7 win over the Alisal Trojans. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 129th, while the Trojans are ranked 262nd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Luke Tribolet and Steve Malone. Tribolet gained 184 total yards and two touchdowns while Malone rushed for 118 yards and three TDs on only 14 carries. Tribolet also rushed for 146 rushing yards, which is notable because St. Ignatius College Preparatory is 4-2 when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 1-4 otherwise.

St. Ignatius College Preparatory was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 370 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

The victory (which was St. Ignatius College Preparatory's third in a row) raised their record to 5-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 32.0 points over those games. As for Alisal, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.

St. Ignatius College Preparatory will host Menlo School at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Knights' defense has only allowed 11.5 points per game this season, so the Wildcats' offense will have their work cut out for them. Alisal does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
