Football Preview: Crossland Cavaliers vs. Largo Lions
Crossland hasn't had much luck against Largo recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Cavaliers are taking a road trip to take on the Lions at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Crossland and Surrattsville meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Saturday. The Cavaliers put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 26-0 win. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Cavaliers had established a 23-point advantage.
Crossland found their leader in sophomore Donte Hagan, who picked up 66 receiving yards and two scores, and also rushed for 71 yards on only six carries.
Crossland's defense made their presence known, laying out Robert Pointer four times. Enilson Zapata refused to say out of the backfield, picking up three sacks all by himself. Crossland got some further help from Zapata: he picked up three sacks and made five total tackles.
Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter and that's exactly how it played out for Largo on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Friendly out of the water with a 44-0 final score. The Lions have beaten the Patriots the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Patriots has come to flipping the script.
Crossland better keep an eye on Tymond Foxx. He was instrumental in Largo's win, rushing for 140 yards and three TDs on only 13 carries, while also picking up 66 receiving yards and one touchdown. Foxx's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 112 rushing yards. Akeem Jervis was another key player, rushing for 44 yards.
Largo was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 271 rushing yards. They are 5-1 when they've run for more than 200 yards.
