Softball Recap: John Carroll Catholic Comes Up Short

John Carroll Catholic dropped down to 6-6 on Thursday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 13-2 to the Northside Rams. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cavaliers of the 12-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.

As for Northside, they are on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 17 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-5-1 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 contests by eight runs or more this season.

For Northside's part, Avery Patton was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Those ten strikeouts gave Patton a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Aiden Sharbutt was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Haley Lyons, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Coming up, John Carroll Catholic will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Wenonah at 5:30 p.m. As for Northside, they will face off against Brookwood at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Rams 2.2, the Panthers 1.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
