Basketball Recap: Churubusco's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Churubusco came into Friday's match having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 52-40 victory over the Prairie Heights Panthers on Friday. This was payback for the Eagles, who suffered a 44-38 loss the last time these two teams met.

Churubusco's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Patty Wiggs, who posted 16 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. Wiggs is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Sinclair, who went 6 for 14 on her way to 19 points and five steals.

Despite the loss, Prairie Heights still got an impressive performance from Emily McCrea, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 boards. That was a full 65% of Prairie Heights' points, marking the fourth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Certain, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten boards.

Churubusco's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 4-9. As for Prairie Heights, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-9.

Churubusco didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 50-23 win against Fort Wayne Canterbury on the 21st. As for Prairie Heights, they will venture away from home to square off against West Noble at 6:00 p.m. on December 28th.
