Basketball Recap: 21st Century Charter Snaps Ten-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

It was a proper cat-fight when 21st Century Charter took on East Chicago Central on Friday. The 21st Century Charter Cougars fell to the East Chicago Central Cardinals 58-52. The Cougars have struggled against the Cardinals recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Terrence Hayes, who posted 16 points along with five boards and three blocks. Hayes is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 19 games he's played dating back to last season. Jacolby Donaldson was another key player, going 6 for 11 on his way to 14 points.

Dominique Murphy was his usual excellent self, going 11 of 17 en route to 30 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals for East Chicago Central. That makes it six consecutive games in which Murphy has scored at least a third of East Chicago Central's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Yamauree Wallace, who scored five points along with five boards and four steals.

21st Century Charter's defeat ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 13-4. As for East Chicago Central, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-5.

21st Century Charter will host Marquette Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. 21st Century Charter is facing Marquette Catholic at the right time seeing as Marquette Catholic is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for East Chicago Central, they will face off against La Lumiere at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. East Chicago Central knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully La Lumiere likes a good challenge.
