Basketball Game Preview: Vanlue Wildcats vs. Mohawk Warriors

The Vanlue Wildcats will be taking part in a tournament against the Mohawk Warriors at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Mohawk took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Vanlue, who comes in off a win.

Vanlue will bounce into Saturday's match after beating Van Buren, who they had gone 1-7 against in their eight prior meetings. Vanlue enjoyed a cozy 57-43 victory over Van Buren on Thursday. The score was all tied up 28-28 at the break, but the Wildcats were the better team in the second half.

Vanlue got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Olivia Secord out in front who went 6 for 11 on her way to 18 points and seven steals. Secord has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 38 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrienne Phillips, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten boards.

Vanlue smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in eight consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Mohawk lost to Elmwood on the road by a 47-31 margin on Monday.

Mohawk has also been struggling recently as they've lost 15 of their last 16 contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 4-18 record this season. As for Vanlue, their victory bumped their record up to 9-13.
