Football Recap: Roosevelt Takes Down Pueblo County in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Roosevelt walked away with it. They breezed past the Pueblo County Hornets to the tune of 47-0 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Roughriders, who have now won six games by 35 points or more so far this season.

It was another big night for Milo Pascual, who rushed for 177 yards and two scores while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. Roosevelt is undefeated when Pascual posts 100 or more rushing yards, but 1-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryder Tymkowych, who rushed for 86 yards and one TD on only five carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Roosevelt was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 294 rushing yards. They are a perfect 6-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.

Another reason for the win was Roosevelt's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Pueblo County's QB won't forget Kyle Young anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Roosevelt received some extra help from Aiden Robinson, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

The victory (which was Roosevelt's fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 9.4 points on average over those games. As for Pueblo County, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 7-4 record.

Looking ahead, Roosevelt is taking a road trip to challenge Palisade at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Roughriders' defense better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 33.3 points per game this season. Pueblo County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
