With a playoff win on the line, Hooker rose to the challenge on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 34-20 win over the Frederick Bombers. Winning may never get old, but the Bulldogs sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Hooker was led to victory by Justin Palacios and Keilan Robinson. Palacios gained 157 total yards and four touchdowns, while Robinson threw for 292 yards and two TDs on only 16 passes. Palacios got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 67 yards. A healthy portion of Robinson's aerial production (105 yards to be exact) went to Gannon Hill.
Hooker's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB six times. The heavy lifting was done by Gunnar Martens and Kip Nunley, who racked up four sacks between them. With that strong performance, Nunley is now averaging an impressive 5.2 total tackles per game. Another thorn in Frederick's side was Hunter Ray, who picked up a sack, made ten total tackles (2.0 for loss), and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception.
Hooker's victory bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Frederick, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-5.
Looking ahead, Hooker will head out on the road to take on Rejoice Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles' defense has only allowed 11.8 points per game this season, so the Bulldogs' offense will have their work cut out for them. Frederick does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
