Baseball Game Preview: Arroyo Dons vs. Washington Huskies

The Arroyo Dons are taking a road trip to face off against the Washington Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Arroyo took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Mountain House 6-5. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Dons as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Jered Montenegro made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Montenegro was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those hits were his first of the season.

In other batting news, CJ Marquez was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season. Marco Carbajal was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple.

Arroyo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. The last time their batting average was this high was since the start of last season.

Washington played against Livermore on Friday and won via forfeit.

For Washington's part, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hugo Marks, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Washington picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 2-4. As for Arroyo, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.

Arroyo couldn't quite get it done against Washington in their previous meeting back in March of 2023 as they fell 10-5. Can Arroyo avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
