Basketball Game Preview: Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks vs. Woodland Park Panthers

The Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Woodland Park Panthers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Cheyenne Mountain will be strutting in after a win while Woodland Park will be coming in after a loss.

Cheyenne Mountain not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since December 7, 2024 (when they won 79-36). They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Pueblo Centennial 88-59. The Red-Tailed Hawks pushed the score to 72-42 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bulldogs cut but never quite recovered from.

Cheyenne Mountain's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Alex Treglia, who dropped a double-double with 22 points and ten boards, and Rhys Thuma, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Those 16 points gave Thuma a new career-high. Sonny Hunt was another key player, going 5-for-7 to rack up 12 points.

Meanwhile, Woodland Park was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat dating back to last season. They had to suffer through a 57-27 loss at the hands of Harrison. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Despite the loss, Woodland Park saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Zach Summeril posted five points and eight boards. Summeril has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times he's played.

Everything came up roses for Cheyenne Mountain against Woodland Park in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 79-36 victory. Do the Red-Tailed Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
