South View had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 57-48 victory over the Gray's Creek Bears on Tuesday. The score was all tied up 26-26 at the break, but the Tigers were the better team in the second half.

South View can attribute much of their success to Jalen Mills, who posted 16 points and four steals. What's more, Mills posted three assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Nashion Singletary, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

South View was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gray's Creek only racked up five.

When it comes to explaining why Gray's Creek lost, don't look at Ezekiel Reed. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 16 points and 22 boards. Reed is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least nine every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Deago Smith, who had ten points.

Gray's Creek dropped their record down to 0-3 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, South View will be taking part in a tournament against Northwood Temple Academy at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Gray's Creek, they are taking a road trip to take on Jack Britt at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bears will need to watch out since the Buccaneers have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
