Refugio extended their winning streak to nine on Friday, bumping them up to 9-0. They breezed past the Three Rivers Bulldogs to the tune of 63-13. Fans of the Bobcats have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.
Zander Wills had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 278 yards and three scores on only 11 carries. Wills is crushing it when it comes to rushing touchdowns: he's punched in at least two every time he's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Perez, who threw for 208 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 12 passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Refugio was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 369 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Three Rivers only rushed for 99.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 15 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Perez, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
As for Three Rivers, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-6. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 832nd, while Refugio is ranked 58th).
When it comes to explaining why Three Rivers lost, don't look at Ethan Conn. Despite the final result, he picked up 109 receiving yards and one TD. Conn's longest reception was for an incredible 71 yards.
Refugio and Three Rivers are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Bobcats will square off against Weimar on Thursday. As for Three Rivers, they will face off against Ganado on Thursday. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the Indians have now posted at least 31 points in their last six matchups.
