Volleyball Recap: Guilderland Flying Dutchmen vs. Shenendehowa Plainsmen

Guilderland unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell 3-1 to the Shenendehowa Plainsmen on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Flying Dutchmen of the 3-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Guilderland was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Shenendehowa work for it, especially in the third set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-13, 18-25, 28-26, 25-16.

Shenendehowa's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kylie Fountain, who had 11 digs and six aces. That's the most digs Fountain has posted over her last seven contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacey Bitter, who had 11 digs and two aces.

Shenendehowa's victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2.
