Baseball Recap: Red Bluff's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

While Red Bluff's win against Foothill wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Spartans' pitcher stepped up to hand the Cougars a 2-0 shutout on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Spartans sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

The result came thanks to Cooper Sides's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Red Bluff is 5-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-7 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Mason Lyford was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Red Bluff is 4-1 when Lyford posts two or more stolen bases, but 4-7 otherwise.

The victory got Red Bluff back to even at 8-8. As for Foothill, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-8.

Looking ahead, Red Bluff will take on Reedley in a tournament on Monday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 6.1 runs per game this season. As for Foothill, they will be taking part in a tournament against Crater at 1:00 p.m. on Monday.
