Volleyball Recap: Mother McAuley Mighty Macs vs. Benet Academy Redwings
On Saturday fans watched as two of the best teams in the nation hit the court. The Mother McAuley Mighty Macs fell 2-0 to the Benet Academy Redwings. The Mighty Macs' defeat signaled the end of their nine-game winning streak.
While Mother McAuley was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the second set. The final score came out to 25-13, 25-22.
Mother McAuley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Abbey Williams, who had 13 digs, five kills, and a block. Williams is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had five or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Buchanan, who had nine kills, seven digs, and two blocks.
Mother McAuley's loss ended a 15-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 29-4. As for Benet Academy, the win for them keeps them at an undefeated 31-0.
Mother McAuley will face off against Lyons at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Benet Academy, they will take on Huntley at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday.
