Football Recap: Coyle Falls Short Against Ranked Cherokee

Coyle faced Cherokee in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Bluejackets were beaten by the Chiefs 52-6. The contest marked the Bluejackets' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Tyree Lancaster threw for 31 yards and one touchdown. Xavier Noble was his top target, picking up 29 receiving yards.

Cherokee found their leader in sophomore Dawson Schanbacher, who rushed for 165 yards while picking up 7.9 yards per carry, and also threw for 62 yards and one TD. Those 165 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Schanbacher.

Coyle's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Cherokee, they pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Coyle has already played their next game, a 36-30 victory against Davenport on the 6th. As for Cherokee, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 42-8 win against Waukomis on the 6th.
