Preview: Parkland Mustangs vs. Glenn Bobcats
The Parkland Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the Glenn Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Parkland is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Parkland suffered their biggest defeat since December 4, 2023 on Wednesday. They suffered a tough 73-53 defeat at the hands of Mount Tabor. Parkland has not had much luck with Mount Tabor recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Parkland's defeat came about despite a quality game from Joshua Moore, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Moore has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last nine times he's played. SaMaurie Moses was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Glenn's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a hard 52-36 fall against East Forsyth. While losing is never fun, Glenn can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 331st, while East Forsyth is ranked 155th).
Despite the defeat, Glenn saw an underclassman step up: Noni Jones dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Jones scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zyire Murphy, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Glenn struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Parkland's record is now 8-8. Glenn's record now sits at 6-9.
Wednesday's matchup is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Parkland have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 42.2% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Glenn, though, as they've only made 36.3% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Parkland and Glenn were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in December of 2023, but Parkland came up empty-handed after a 54-53 defeat. Can Parkland avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
