The Sotomayor WILDCATS are taking a road trip to take on the Stevens Falcons at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Tuesday, Sotomayor made easy work of Holmes and carried off a 3-0 victory. The WILDCATS haven't had any issues with the Huskies recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Sotomayor never let Holmes on the board, but things got pretty close in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-8, 26-24, 25-13.
Sotomayor's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zoey Aguayo led the charge by getting 16 assists and six digs. That's the most digs Aguayo has posted since back in August. The team also got some help courtesy of Marina Soliz, who had ten digs and two aces.
Stevens won the last time they faced Warren and Deli Gonzalez did her part to make sure it happened again. The Falcons walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Warriors on Tuesday thanks in part to Gonzalez, who had 18 digs. She is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last four games she's played.
The win didn't come easy: Warren scored at least 19 points in every set. The final score came out to 25-19, 25-23, 27-29, 25-23.
The victory got Sotomayor back to even at 18-18. As for Stevens, their record now sits at 23-14.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's match: Sotomayor hasn't let much over the net this season, having averaged 4.2 blocks per game. It's a different story for Stevens, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 blocks. Given Sotomayor's sizable advantage in that area, the Falcons will need to find a way to close that gap.
Sotomayor might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Stevens in their previous matchup back in September. Can the WILDCATS avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
