Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Southside

Southside had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Lejeune on Friday. The Seahawks put the hurt on the Devilpups with a sharp 8-2 victory. The Seahawks not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 20th (when they won 15-4).

Braxton Cuthrell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Cuthrell was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Dexter Oden was excellent, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. TJ Minor was another key player, earning one RBI, two runs, and two stolen bases.

The win (which was Southside's third in a row) raised their record to 9-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Lejeune, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-9.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Southside will square off against rival East Carteret at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Seahawks 4, the Mariners 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Lejeune is set to take on their familiar foe Northside - Pinetown at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
