Liberty Common will head out on the road to square off against Wellington at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Liberty Common is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Liberty Common came out on top against Jefferson Academy on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run fifth inning. The Eagles put the hurt on the Jaguars with a sharp 13-3 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Eagles needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Liberty Common got a big performance out of Bowyn Caudill, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs Caudill has posted since back in March of 2025. Matt Morgan was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Liberty Common was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .520. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Wellington, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Mountain View 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since March 30th.
Carter Weedin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up eight Ks. He has become a key player for Wellington: the team is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 6-7 otherwise.
At the plate, Wellington let Cade Keller and Owen Gabbert run wild. Keller went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double, while Gabbert went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. Wellington is 5-1 when Gabbert posts two or more runs, but 5-6 otherwise.
Liberty Common's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Wellington, their record now sits at 10-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Liberty Common has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Wellington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Liberty Common came up short against Wellington when the teams last played back in March of 2024, falling 12-8. Can Liberty Common avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
