Basketball Recap: Gulliver Prep Comes Up Short

Gulliver Prep extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 1-4. They took a 62-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Clearwater Tornadoes. That's two games in a row now that the Raiders have lost by exactly ten points.

When it comes to explaining why Gulliver Prep lost, don't look at Champ Smith. Despite the final result, he went 9-for-18 en route to 20 points and three steals. The game was Smith's sixth in a row with at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nico Leal, who posted 14 points and four steals.

As for Clearwater, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 57.0 points this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Clearwater to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tavaris Gant, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Those 13 boards gave Gant a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kris Foote, who earned 15 points in addition to seven rebounds and three blocks.

Gulliver Prep didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-17 defeat against Divine Savior Academy on the 1st. As for Clearwater, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Berkeley Prep at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
