Softball Recap: Wilmington Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Wilmington duked it out with Manteno on Tuesday. The Wildcats fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 9-7. The game marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Keeley Walsh was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Southall, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI and one triple.

Wilmington's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-2. As for Manteno, they pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Wilmington will face off against Momence at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats are facing the Momence Athletics at the right time seeing as the Momence Athletics are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Manteno, they will square off against Hoopeston at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cornjerkers have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
