Softball Preview: Live Oak Acorns vs. Leland Chargers
Live Oak is 1-9 against Leland since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Live Oak Acorns will be playing in front of their home fans against the Leland Chargers at 4:00 p.m.
Last Wednesday, it was a hard-fought contest, but Live Oak had to settle for an 8-7 defeat against Leigh. Live Oak has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Ava Chapman and Hailey Stegall stepped up to the plate in a big way. Chapman went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a double, while Stegall scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Aida Martins was another key contributor, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Leland was able to grind out a solid win over Westmont on Friday, taking the game 6-3. The victory was just what Leland needed coming off of an 11-1 loss in their prior match.
Lily O'Hanneson was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 4-for-5. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaci Yoshioka-Wong, who scored a run while going 3-for-5.
Live Oak's defeat dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Leland, their win bumped their record up to 9-5.
Leland's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Live Oak has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Leland, though, as they've been averaging only 3. Will Live Oak keep running through batters, or will Leland buck the trend?
