Basketball Recap: Golden Comes Up Short

Golden and Windsor squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Golden had to settle for second. They lost 56-36 to the Wizards. The Demons were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-12.

Despite the defeat, Golden saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Amelia Melcher went 6-for-8 on her way to 13 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlyn Bates, who posted nine points and eight rebounds.

Windsor got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sabella Hilliard out in front who scored eight points along with eight boards and seven steals. Those seven steals gave Hilliard a new career-high. Nola Greenwald was another key player, putting up 22 points.

Golden's loss dropped their record down to 20-5. As for Windsor, they pushed their record up to 20-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

Golden does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Windsor, they will take on Standley Lake at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday. The Wizards will need to watch out since the Gators have now posted at least 55 points in their last three matchups.
