Baseball Game Preview: Erskine Academy Eagles vs. Belfast Lions

The Erskine Academy Eagles will face off against the Belfast Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Belfast took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Erskine Academy, who comes in off a win.

Erskine Academy got their first taste of in-conference action on Friday and they started things off strong. They came out on top against Lincoln Academy by a score of 6-1.

Carter Ulmer and Griffin Hayden did most of the damage at the plate: Ulmer went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Hayden went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Hayden has posted since back in May of 2025. Dylan Maguire also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Belfast faced Nokomis in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Lions fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 5-3. The Lions' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Belfast saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sam Jewett, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Aidan Howard was another, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Belfast's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-2. As for Erskine Academy, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Erskine Academy skirted past Belfast 1-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
