League recap: Campo Verde surprises Marcos de Niza

Campo Verde scored a shocking upset when it eliminated Marcos de Niza, 28-7. At the time, the Padres were ranked seventh in the state, while the Coyotes were 33rd.

Campo Verde was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after defeating Marcos de Niza. Max Ragsdale's team came in at 21 in the state poll after placing at number 33 last week.

Jackson Loney was a passing and rushing force as Roy Lopez's team fell to the Coyotes. He completed 17 passes for 215 yards and also ran for 20 yards. Loney's favorite target this week was N'Keal Harry, who caught 5 passes for 85 yards.

Gabriel Ogbonnaya was a force in the backfield as Campo Verde bested the Padres.

Ogbonnaya was the best running back in II Section VI this week. In 23 carries, he ran for 226 yards as the Coyotes fell to the Coyotes. Teammate Luke Pineda added to the ground attack by rushing for 13 yards.

The Padres' Joshua Eckley and Harry led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-2 quarterback Eckley has thrown for 1,106 yards this season, while Harry has 17 catches for 424 yards. Poston Butte's Brandon Hatfield leads the league in rushing yards with 787.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Campo Verde takes on Westwood. The Coyotes are currently in second, while the Warriors are in third.

There should be lots of points scored when Campo Verde and Westwood face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Coyotes comes in having scored 222 this season, while Spencer Stowers' team has scored 207. Campo Verde scored 28 points last week as it topped Marcos de Niza.

Mesquite added to the longest winning streak in II Section VI this week by beating the Warriors, 49-0. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
