West Aurora and Belleville East squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but West Aurora had to settle for second. They lost to the Lancers on the road by a 48-34 margin. The Blackhawks' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Several Blackhawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bryce Riley, who rushed for 125 yards and one TD on only 11 carries. Lesroy Tittle was in the mix too, providing West Aurora with two scores.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 14 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Tittle, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Belleville East got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Josh Ware out in front who rushed for 79 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries, and also picked up 33 receiving yards. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Ware a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jaedon Beamon, who rushed for 115 yards and one TD on only 15 carries.
West Aurora's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Belleville East, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
West Aurora does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Belleville East, they will challenge Chicago Mt. Carmel at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
