Preview: Mifflin Punchers vs. Beechcroft Cougars
The Mifflin Punchers will be home for the holidays to greet the Beechcroft Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mifflin is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
Mifflin's 16-7 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They fell to Lancaster 54-48. While losing is never fun, Mifflin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 517th, while Lancaster is ranked 159th).
Despite the loss, Mifflin got a solid performance out of Tariq Johnson, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds. Johnson scored a full 37.5% of Mifflin's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of John Glover, who scored 11 points.
Even though they lost, Mifflin were working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, even though East scored an imposing 63 points on Friday, Beechcroft still came out on top. Beechcroft walked away with a 72-63 win over East. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Beechcroft has managed all season.
Mifflin's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Beechcroft, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.
Mifflin beat Beechcroft 49-40 in their previous matchup back in January. Will Mifflin repeat their success, or does Beechcroft have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
