Basketball Recap: Olivia Secord and Adrienne Phillips Secure Win for Vanlue

Vanlue won the last time they faced Ridgemont and things went their way on Saturday too. The Vanlue Wildcats walked away with a 49-37 victory over the Ridgemont Golden Gophers.

Leading Vanlue to victory were Adrienne Phillips and Olivia Secord. Phillips went 9 of 17 en route to 22 points and seven rebounds, while Secord posted 14 points along with seven assists and five steals. Secord is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 34 games she's played dating back to last season. Alison Brooks was another key player, putting up seven points and four steals.

Vanlue smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

Ridgemont's loss came despite strong showings from Riley Hites and Laney Elsasser. Hites dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards, while Elsasser put up four points in addition to nine rebounds and four steals. What's more, Elsasser also racked up two blocks, the most she's had since back in February of 2024.

Vanlue's record is now 7-11. As for Ridgemont, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-9.

Vanlue has already played their next game, a 45-30 defeat against Cardinal Stritch on the 28th. As for Ridgemont, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 51-38 loss against Benjamin Logan on the 27th.
