Baseball Recap: Rehoboth Christian Starts Season with Victory at Home

Rehoboth Christian gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They put the hurt on the Zuni Thunderbirds with a sharp 12-6 win. That's more bragging rights for the Lynx, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Josiah Becksvoort and Jonathan Zylstra made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Becksvoort tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Meanwhile, Zylstra pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. At bat, Becksvoort scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Zylstra scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Becksvoort a new career-high in hits (two).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zach VanDrunen, who went 1-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

Rehoboth Christian has already played their next contest, a 15-7 defeat against Gateway Christian on the 20th. As for Zuni, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 20-4 victory against Navajo Pine on the 11th.
