Basketball Recap: Tavid Johnson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Francis Parker over La Jolla Country Day

Francis Parker was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 59-48 to the La Jolla Country Day Torreys. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lancers of the 60-53 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Francis Parker lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Tavid Johnson, who went 6 of 15 on his way to 19 points and five boards. Johnson's evening made it 29 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kai Jones, who went 7 for 12 en route to 15 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Francis Parker's defeat dropped their record down to 11-9. As for La Jolla Country Day, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-10 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Francis Parker will challenge Maranatha Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for La Jolla Country Day, they will take on Bishop's at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. La Jolla Country Day knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Bishop's likes a good challenge.
