Basketball Recap: Addison Soles' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Franklin Academy over East Wake Academy

Franklin Academy's game on Tuesday was all tied up 17-17 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 45-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the East Wake Academy Eagles. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Franklin Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Addison Soles, who posted eight points and seven rebounds. Erin Collins was another key player, putting up ten points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Franklin Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive matchups.

East Wake Academy was led to victory by Emma Roche and Leila Gonzalez. Roche dropped a double-double on 25 points and 13 rebounds, while Gonzalez dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. The game was Roche's third in a row with at least ten points.

Franklin Academy's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 7-5. As for East Wake Academy, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2.

Franklin Academy will host Falls Lake at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for East Wake Academy, they are taking a road trip to challenge NCSSM: Durham at 6:00 p.m. on January 14th.
