Softball Game Preview: Rowland Raiders vs. West Covina Bulldogs

Rowland is on a three-game streak of home losses, and West Covina a three-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Tuesday. The Rowland Raiders will host the West Covina Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Rowland's offense. They came up short against Charter Oak on Thursday, falling 10-0.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Covina). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Garey a 15-0 shutout on Friday. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Leslie Baustista made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two).

In other batting news, West Covina let Danielle Diaz and Sophia Adler run wild. Diaz scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Adler scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those four runs gave Adler a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Melina Alvarado, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

West Covina always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win got West Covina back to even at 8-8-1. As for Rowland, they now have a losing record of 5-6-1.

Rowland suffered a grim 21-6 defeat to West Covina in their previous meeting back in March of 2016. Can the Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
