Softball Recap: Waterbury Career Academy Spartans vs. Wolcott Eagles
Waterbury Career Academy had lost six straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 2-9 to make it seven. They lost 17-1 to the Wolcott Eagles. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Spartans of the 13-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.
Waterbury Career Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Camilla Garcia, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
As for Wolcott, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-4. Considering they have won six contests by more than 12 runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
On Wolcott's side, Avery Malenfant looked comfortable as she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk).
On the hitting side, Lia Ladd was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Jaelyn Belval was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
