Softball Recap: Hazard Has No Trouble Against Pike County Central

After losing to Pike County Central the last time they met, Hazard decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Bulldogs / Lady Bulldogs blew past the Hawks 11-0 on Thursday. The Bulldogs / Lady Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

Peyton Fields made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Halle Jones was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Braylynn Eddington was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Hazard and bumps their season record up to 12-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Pike County Central, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hazard will venture away from home to square off against Shelby Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.65 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs / Lady Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Pike County Central, they are taking a road trip to challenge Blazer at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
