Preview: Commerce Tigers vs. Elbert County Blue Devils

The Commerce Tigers and the Elbert County Blue Devils will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Commerce has three straight wins, Elbert County has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Even though Commerce has not done well against Tallulah Falls recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Commerce came out on top against Tallulah Falls by a score of 57-49.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Commerce to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tyler Sorrells, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Sorrells is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Peters, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds.

Elbert County suffered their biggest defeat since December 9, 2023 on Saturday. They were outmatched by Oglethorpe County on the road and fell 70-42. Elbert County has struggled against Oglethorpe County recently, as their matchup on Saturday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Commerce's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-11. As for Elbert County, they bumped their record down to 4-14 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Commerce ended up a good deal behind Elbert County when the teams last played back in February of 2023, losing 71-56. Thankfully for Commerce, Quan Moss (who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and five steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
