Baseball Recap: Jackson City Comes Up Short

Jackson City dropped their record down to 9-7 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Bath County Wildcats by a score of 12-11. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in March.

Jacob Morgan was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Jackson City: the team is 6-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Gavan Ritchie, who got on base in two of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

As for Bath County, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-11-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.

On Bath County's side, the team relied heavily on Zane McCarty, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases McCarty has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Cox, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jackson City will venture away from home to take on Lynn Camp at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Bath County, they will square off against West Carter at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats are facing the Comets at the right time seeing as the Comets are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
