Basketball Game Preview: DeMatha Stags vs. Gonzaga Eagles

DeMatha is on a 11-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Gonzaga is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The DeMatha Stags will welcome the Gonzaga Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in DeMatha's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight contests.

DeMatha is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. Everything went their way against Our Lady of Good Counsel on Friday as DeMatha made off with an 87-65 win. The Stags have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matchups by 20 points or more this season.

DeMatha relied on the efforts of Ashton (Ace) Meeks, who went 8 for 14 from beyond the arc to rack up 30 points, and Charles Thomas, who went 9 of 11 en route to 22 points and five rebounds. Meeks' evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Wallace, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 11 points and five boards.

DeMatha was working as a unit and finished the game with 25 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Meanwhile, Gonzaga is ranked highly in their home state and on Sunday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Bishop McNamara. Gonzaga fell just short of Bishop McNamara by a score of 63-60. It was the first time this season that the Eagles let down their fans at home.

DeMatha has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.6 points over those games. As for Gonzaga, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 10-1 and their overall record down to 23-3.
