Football Recap: Spring Hill Raiders vs. Marshall County Tigers
After soaring to 35 points the game before, Spring Hill was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They were beaten by the Marshall County Tigers 61-13. The Raiders haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.
Although Spring Hill took the loss, they still got scores from Reeves Gill and Lionel Brooks.
Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed 12 in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Gill, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Marshall County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tot Gardner out in front who rushed for 50 yards and three TDs, and also picked up 58 receiving yards. Gardner is becoming a predictor of the Tigers' success: when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Another passer making a difference was Tyler Thompson, who threw for 288 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes.
Spring Hill's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-5. As for Marshall County, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-3.
