Basketball Recap: Churchill's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Wednesday

After losing to Madison the last time they met, Churchill decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Churchill Chargers walked away with a 57-49 victory over the Madison Mavericks on Wednesday. Given the Chargers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 194th, while the Mavericks are ranked 555th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Madison's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Will Johnson, who posted 14 points. Johnson continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jordan Clay, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 12 points and five rebounds.

The win made it two in a row for Churchill and bumps their season record up to 16-12. As for Madison, they dropped their record down to 11-17 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Churchill has already played their next matchup, a 60-47 defeat against Clark on the 25th. As for Madison, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 56-50 victory against Reagan on the 25th.
