Baseball Recap: Birch Run Takes a Loss

Birch Run had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 12-18 to make it four. They fell 8-4 to the Caro Tigers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 7-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Birch Run saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Kenny, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Another was Carson Cunningham, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two RBI.

As for Caro, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games.

On Caro's side, Ramon Zamora Jr made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Zamora Jr was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted over his last 11 games.

In other batting news, Xander Grice was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Caro: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 8-9 otherwise. Mark Warren was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

While Birch Run had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
