Volleyball Recap: Alleghany Takes a Loss

Alleghany had lost seven straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 2-17 to make it eight. They fell just short of the Wilkes Central Eagles by a score of 3-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-2 back in September.

When it comes to explaining why Alleghany lost, don't look at Lilly Carrillo. Despite the final result, she had 22 digs and nine aces. Carrillo has been hot recently, having also posted 16 or more assists the last three times she's played. Ellie Collins was another key player, getting 16 kills, 16 digs, and one block.

As for Wilkes Central, their win ended a three-match drought at home and bumped them up to 7-13. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since September 9th.

Wilkes Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lake Carver led the charge by getting seven digs and six aces. The dominant performance also gave Carver a new career-high in assists (22). Another player making a difference was Jaylyn Rhoades, who had 12 digs and three aces.

Looking ahead, Alleghany will take on Surry Central at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Wilkes Central, they will challenge Starmount at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
