Baseball Game Preview: Archbishop Riordan Crusaders vs. Mountain View Spartans

The Archbishop Riordan Crusaders will square off against the Mountain View Spartans at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Archbishop Riordan has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 18.

On Friday, Archbishop Riordan came up short against Junipero Serra and fell 8-3.

Archbishop Riordan got a good showing from Jacob Cai, who tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Cai has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Logan Tuman made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

The home team had won the previous two meetings between Mountain View and Homestead, and Homestead kept the tradition alive. The Spartans came up short against the Mustangs on Friday, falling 10-2.

Mountain View saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zander Yocum, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Another was Caleb Low, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Archbishop Riordan's loss dropped their record down to 6-18. As for Mountain View, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 6-18.

Archbishop Riordan couldn't quite get it done against Mountain View when the teams last played back in March of 2025 as they fell 6-1. Can the Crusaders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
