Softball Recap: Markesan Wins Going Away Against Montello

Markesan's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Montello Hilltoppers as they made off with a 17-1 win. The Hornets haven't had any issues with the Hilltoppers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Hannah Stellmacher made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ali Kirker, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Jaelyn Walker was another key player, getting on base in three of her six plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-4. As for Montello, their loss was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Markesan will square off against Westfield Area at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Hornets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pioneers have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season. As for Montello, they will challenge Pardeeville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
