Basketball Recap: South Loup Comes Up Short

South Loup lost against Amherst back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. South Loup was outmatched by Amherst and fell 61-30. South Loup was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-16.

Despite the loss, South Loup still got an impressive performance from Crew Witthuhn, who shot 43% from the field to rack up 18 points and five rebounds.

Leading Amherst to victory were Gavin Davis and Carson Riessland. Davis went 7-for-10 en route to 15 points in addition to six boards and three steals, while Riessland shot 43% from the field on his way to 20 points. Another player making a difference was Ryker Boersma, who posted nine points and seven assists.

South Loup's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Amherst, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Looking ahead, South Loup will head out on the road to challenge Cambridge at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Amherst, they will square off against Loomis at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
