Basketball Recap: James Coffman's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lee Williams over Coconino

After flying high against Flagstaff last Monday, Lee Williams came back down to earth. The Lee Williams Volunteers fell 68-57 to the Coconino Panthers on Wednesday. The Volunteers' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Lee Williams' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was James Coffman, who posted 24 points. That was a full 42.1% of Lee Williams' points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hudson Lander, who had 15 points.

Lee Williams now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Coconino, they pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lee Williams will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Mingus at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Lee Williams is facing Mingus at the right time seeing as Mingus is stuck on a six-game losing streak. Coconino will also get a bit of a break before their next match: they'll face off against Prescott at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
