Softball Recap: Toronto Starts Season with Win at Home

Toronto gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. They blew past the David Anderson Blue Devils 14-4. This was payback for the Red Knights, who suffered a 20-7 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Laney Danko was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off only two hits. Danko was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and one run. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jaylee Brown and Lily Sapp did most of the damage at the plate: Brown scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5, while Sapp went 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBI. Those three runs gave Sapp a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Anna Wright, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5.

Toronto will have a chance to go back-to-back against David Anderson: the pair will be back at it again later today.
