Softball Recap: First Flight Takes a Loss

First Flight extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 9-8. They lost 15-1 to the Manteo Redskins. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Redskins this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-1 back in March.

As for Manteo, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 16-6. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.

For Manteo's part, Calleigh Bush and Makenna Gray were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Bush tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Gray pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Bush went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Gray got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits Bush has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bella Huntingford, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2025. Kayla Austin was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

As of now, neither First Flight nor Manteo have any future games scheduled.
